Client Creates Safer Work Environment and Attains Stringent Mexican Certification with IntelliSite
IoT technology has helped drive growth and innovation in nearly every industry it has touched. Retailers have been able to attract more customers with real-time, location-based offers; transportation and logistics companies now have a better handle on routes and gas consumption; agriculture and farming can optimize yields based on water and environment readings – the list goes on and on.
Specifically, another great example of IoT transforming an industry is its use in manufacturing. We recently worked with a worldwide manufacturer this is a leading provider of innovative solutions for the global automotive industry. The client specializes in the development and manufacturing of aluminum components for powertrain and body structure applications. The client identifies and takes pride in its sustainability efforts, and is the only company from the automotive sector to be included in the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability Pacific Alliance Index.
With operating six plants within Monterrey in one big facility, as well as one in Monclova and another in Saltillo (all in Mexico), the client had a couple of key challenges they needed to overcome: Create a safe working environment for its employees and attain Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM) compliance, a very stringent and difficult air quality certification for the area. An IoT-based application was the perfect fit to help them meet these challenges.
So how did they go about doing this?
The client was introduced to IntelliSite through its technology partner, Axity. Based on the client’s needs, Axity incorporated IntelliSite’s IoT solution into the mix, which included 10 of our air quality sensors responsible for real-time monitoring of particulate matter in the air – in this case, the dust created by the plant and four weather stations to review climatic parameters that affected the air quality as well. Additionally, IntelliSite provided six Universal IoT Gateways (UIGs) which were paired with Cradlepoint LTE routers in order to collect the data and send it, in real time, to the client’s analytics solution on Microsoft’s Azure cloud.
With this always-on, round-the-clock solution, the client was able to ensure the safety of its workers and make better operational and business decisions. With predictive alerts and real-time reporting offered in this state-of-the-art solution, the client was able to achieve compliance with the increasingly stringent regulations in Mexico, and was successful in attaining its NOM certification.
